Become a Member

We are delighted that you are interested in CDTA membership. 

If you are coming from a different Therapy Dog Organization, please skip to option 3 below.

Being a member is defined as having at least one certified therapy dog.

The process is very straightforward. There are three options: local evaluation, remote, and transfer from another Therapy Dog Organization:

Local Evaluation Option:

  1. In order for your dog to become certified, it has to have a health form. You may want to work on this before you begin the process. How to create the health form:

    1. Print out the CTDA Dog Health Form. The only health form we accept is the CTDA Dog Health Form.

    2. Go to a veterinarian, have them perform any necessary procedures, and fill out all dates and signatures on the printed out form

    3. Take a scan or photo of the form

    4. You will upload this to the website in a few steps

  2. Also, acquire a headshot of your dog so we can send you a cool lanyard

  3. Create an account

  4. Follow the instructions of the streamlined process, which will let you enter your user information, then your dog's information. This is where you upload the health form you created in step one, and the headshot.

  5. At the end of the streamlined process, choose "Apply - Local Option".

  6. Find an evaluation in the table, and "Register for Evaluation".

  7. Choose your dog for the evaluation, and click "Submit".

  8. You will receive an email for your verification.

  9. Take and pass the evaluation.

  10. Pay for the membership

  11. The CTDA team reviews your application. When they approve, you will receive another email.

  12. Upon approval, you are a registered CTDA therapy dog team!

Remote Option:

  1. In order for your dog to become certified, it has to have a health form. You may want to work on this before you begin the process. How to create the health form:

    2. Go to a veterinarian, have them perform any necessary procedures, and fill out all dates and signatures on the printed out form

  5. At the end of the streamlined process, choose "Apply - Remote Option".

  6. Complete the form, uploading:

    1. Your AKC Canine Good Citizen test certificate

    2. Two letters of reference from other people involved in your dog training

    3. One letter of reference from a facility that you would like to visit

  7. Once you click "Save", you receive an email to your login email saying that we recieved your remote membership request. Also, back at the user home page, a row will be added to the "Your Remote Membership Applications"​ table. You are done in the Login for this process.

  8. Pay for the membership

  9. The CTDA team reviews your application. When they approve, you will receive another email.

  10. Upon approval, you are a registered CTDA therapy dog team!

Previous Membership in another Therapy Dog Organization Option:

  1. In order for your dog to become certified, it has to have a health form. You may want to work on this before you begin the process. How to create the health form:

  6. Complete the form, uploading:

  7. ​Upload evidence of your previous membership such as a photo or copy of paperwork or membership card from previous membership

  8. Once you click "Save", you receive an email to your login email saying that we received your membership request. Also, back at the user home page, a row will be added to the "Your Remote Membership Applications"​ table. You are done in the Login for this process.

  9. Pay for the membership

  10. The CTDA team reviews your application. When they approve, you will receive another email.

  11. Upon approval, you are a registered CTDA therapy dog team!

Additional Dog Per Handler: $25/Year

Renewing Member

Members are required to renew their membership once per year. Our automated system sends emails to remind members to renew their membership, as well as their health forms. There are step by step instructions to make it easy.

Cost for renewing annually:

Renewing Membership: $75/Year for first dog

Additional Dog Per Handler: $25/Year

Additional Handler Per Dog: $25/Year
